Brooklyn-based writer Alison Leiby's solo show, Oh God, A Show About Abortion has extended its run through June 30 after being originally slated to close June 4. The work officially opened at Off-Broadway's Cherry Lane Theatre May 5 following previews which began April 25. The show will take a hiatus June 5–12, returning to its regular performance schedule June 13-30.
"While we’re alarmed at how timely and necessary Oh God has turned out to be, we’re humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response to the show," said producers Mike Lavoie and Carlee Briglia. "We’re profoundly grateful that Alison will continue sharing her hilarity and insight with theatergoers into the summer."
The work is directed by Lila Neugebauer and presented by Broad City co-creator and star Ilana Glazer. The show sees Leiby telling the story of a momentous summer that involved a scary visit to the "Fertility" section of a Missouri CVS, two root canals, and, finally, a trip to Planned Parenthood. Select performances will feature talkbacks with the opportunity to donate to organizations Planned Parenthood, A is For, and the Center for Reproductive Rights. Bad Robot Productions will be matching all donations.
Next in the series of talkbacks is "Advocacy Through Art" May 19 with seakers including Caren Spruch, National Director of Arts and Entertainment Engagement for Planned Parenthood Federation of America; Kellie Overbey, Co-Founder and Executive Director of A is For; playwright Sanaz Toossi; and filmmaker Nia DaCosta. May 28 will feature a post-show conversation following the matinee performance with I Know What's Best For You author Shelly Oria, and June 1 will feature a post-show conversation with the Center for Reproductive Rights.
The show features lighting design by Amina Alexander and sound design by Margaret Montagna.
