Off-Broadway News Casting Complete for Off-Broadway’s God Said This The Primary Stages production of Leah Nanako Winkler's award-winning play will begin performances in January 2019.

Casting is now complete for the Primary Stages production of Leah Nanako Winkler's God Said This, which begins performances January 16, 2019.

Directed by Morgan Gould, the play will officially open at the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St.) January 29 for a run through February 15.

The cast includes Ako (Sayonara), Satomi Blair (Kentucky), Tom Coiner (The Night Of), Emma Kikue (The Sinner), and Jay Patterson (Inherit the Wind).

God Said This spotlights five Kentuckians facing mortality in very different ways. With her mom undergoing chemotherapy, Hiro, a NYC transplant, returns home to Kentucky after years away, struggling to let go of the demons she inherited. Sophie, her born-again Christian sister, confronts her faith while tackling inevitable adversity. James, their recovering alcoholic father, wants to repair his fractured relationship with his daughters. And John, an old classmate and thirty-something single dad, worries about leaving a lasting legacy for his only son.


The production will feature scenic design by Arnulfo Maldonado, costume design by Jessica Pabst, lighting design by Ryan Seelig, and sound design by M.L. Dogg.

God Said This is the winner of the 2018 Yale Drama Series Prize.
