Playwright Theresa Rebeck, whose play Bernhardt/Hamlet was seen on Broadway earlier this season, makes her Off-Broadway directorial debut with the world premiere of Rob Ackerman’s Dropping Gumballs on Luke Wilson.
The production officially opens June 18 after previews that began June 11 in the A.R.T./New York Theater’s Mezzanine Theater. Performances are scheduled through July 6. The production is presented as part of Working Theater's 34th season.
Inspired by a true, little-known story, the play is about the making of an iconic TV commercial in which a celebrated film director put a movie star's life in the hands of a very jittery props guy.
The cast includes Dean Nolen (Mamma Mia!, Omnium Gatherum, Tabletop), David Wohl (Fiddler on the Roof, Dinner at Eight, The Man Who Had All the Luck), Ann Harada (Cinderella, Avenue Q), Reyna de Courcy (Wetlands), George Hampe (Regrets, Madame Secretary), and Jonathan Sale (Handle with Care, God Friended Me).
The creative team also includes scenic designers Christopher and Justin Swader, lighting designer Mary Ellen Stebbins, costume designer Tricia Barsamian, sound designer Bart Fassbender, video designer Yana Biryukova, casting director Geoff Josselson CSA, and production stage manager Avery Trunko.
