They Call Me Q (Off-Broadway at St. Luke's Theatre). The award-winning play They Call Me Q is written and performed by Qurrat Ann Kadwani. They Call Me Q, according to press notes, is the "story of an Indian girl growing up in the Boogie Down Bronx who gracefully seeks balance between the cultural pressures brought forth by her traditional parents and wanting acceptance into her new culture. Along the journey, Qurrat Ann Kadwani transforms into 13 characters that have shaped her life including her parents, Caucasian teachers, Puerto Rican classmates, and African-American friends." Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1, 2 and 3) (Off-Broadway at The Public Theater). The Public Theater production of Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks' Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3) features Sterling K. Brown, Louis Cancelmi, Peter Jay Fernandez, Jeremie Harris, Russell G. Jones, Jenny Jules, Ken Marks, Jacob Ming-Trent, Tonye Patano and Julian Rozzell Jr. Here's how the Public bills the works: "In Part 1, A Measure of a Man, Hero, a slave who is accustomed to his master's lies, must now decide whether to join him on the Confederate battlefield in exchange for a promise of freedom. Part 2, The Battle in the Wilderness follows Hero and the Colonel as they lead a captured Union solider toward the Confederate lines as the cannons approach. Finally, in Part 3, The Union of My Confederate Parts, the loved ones Hero left behind question whether to escape or wait for his return - only to discover that for Hero, freedom may have come at a great spiritual cost." My Favorite Year (Off-Broadway at The York Theatre Company). The York Theatre Company's staging of the 1992 musical My Favorite Year features Tony Award nominee Douglas Sills, Adam Chanler-Berat, Rose Hemingway, Richard Kind, Leslie Kritzer, Aaron Galligan-Stierle, Bree Branker, Joy Hermalyn, Francis Jue, Daniel Marcus, Barbara Marineau, Christine Pedi, Emily Walton and Nick Wyman. "After landing his dream job as a writer’s assistant on the 1954 season of the 'King Kaiser Comedy Hour,' young Benjy Stone finds himself pressed into service as a caretaker for guest star Alan Swann, a legendary swashbuckling movie star – and party animal," according to press notes. "Their adventures take them from the television studio to a wild night on the town in this new version of the show that includes changes to the structure and book as well as several new songs." By The Water (Off-Broadway at New York City Center). Presented by MTC in association with Ars Nova, Sharyn Rothstein's play is directed by Hal Brooks. The cast features Cassie Beck, Quincy Dunn-Baker, Charlotte Maier, Deirdre O'Connell, Tom Pelphrey, Ethan Phillips and Vyto Ruginis. Here's how the work is billed: "Hurricane Sandy has just ravaged the lifelong home of Marty and Mary Murphy. But the storm has ripped apart more than just the walls: with their neighbors too devastated to stay, the couple's beloved Staten Island community is in danger of disappearing forever.
