Cabaret & Concert News Maltby and Shire Will Debut New Revue at 54 Below

Nikki M. James, Karen Ziemba, Jelani Remy, and more will sing brand-new songs from the Closer Than Ever writers.

David Shire and Richard Maltby Jr.

Broadway writers Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire will bring a new revue to 54 Below, with Maltby & Shire: Revue #3 set to play November 21 at 7 PM at the New York venue.

On hand to sing the evening's new songs will be Nikki M. James, Daniel Jenkins, Karen Ziemba, Kerry Butler, Jelani Remi, and more.

The work follows the team's earlier revues Starting Here, Starting Now and Closer Than Ever, both some of the canon's most enduring theatrical revues. The 54 Below performance will include new material that has never been performed anywhere else—and according to press notes, might not necessarily ever be performed again.

In addition to the team's two beloved revues, Maltby and Shire collaborated on the Broadway musicals Baby and Big. Maltby additionally contributed English lyrics to Miss Saigon and The Pirate Queen and wrote lyrics to Charles Strouse's music for Nick and Nora. Shire contributed two songs to Saturday Night Fever, and famously is the dance arranger behind the original version of "Tick Tock" in Stephen Sondheim's Company.
