Gingold Theatrical Group’s Project Shaw series—under the leadership of Artistic Director David Staller—continues April 17 at 7 PM with a reading of Shaw’s 1897 romantic comedy of errors, You Never Can Tell, at Symphony Space’s Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre (2537 Broadway at 95th Street).

Directed by Staller, the cast features Tony Award winner Michele Pawk, Jonathan Hadary, Lenny Wolpe, Tom Duke, Midori Francis, Marc LeVasseur, Susannah Perkins, Tony Roach, and Raphael Nash Thompson. Theater Talk host Susan Haskins-Doloff is the Narrator.

“Returning to England after 18 years, Mrs. Clandon (Pawk) and her three children—twins Dolly (Francis) and Phillip (Duke), and Gloria (Perkins)—readjust to British life at a summer resort,” according to press notes. “In this comedy of errors, the children unintentionally invite their estranged father Fergus Crampton (Hadary) to a lunch. The resulting awkward family reunion is witnessed by family lawyer Finch McComas (Thompson), who finds himself the butt of the twins’ jokes. Meanwhile, Valentine (Roach), a dentist, falls for modern woman Gloria, whose ideals don’t include love or marriage. And through the chaos and the madness, kindly waiter William (Wolpe) dispenses wisdom with the familiar refrain of ’You never can tell.’”

According to Staller, “Shaw wrote this sparkling comedy to help himself pull out of a depression, reminding himself that there was only so much control we can have over the world around us and that it’s still better to be an active participant in our own lives than as observers on the side lines. We’re sure to hit the wall from time to time, he reasoned, but we still have to get up and out there. After all, you never can tell what’s waiting for us around the corner.”

Tickets are $35 and are available by calling (212) 864-5400 or online at symphonyspace.org. Special reserved VIP seating is available for $50 by contacting the Gingold office at (212) 355-7823 or emailing [email protected].
