Classic Stage Company will launch its Old Friends, New Classics series with a one-night-only concert presentation of Edge of the World, a new musical by Nick Blaemire and Ethan Slater, July 16 at 7 PM.

The show follows a young man who moves to remote Alaska with his father, only to find that the line between lie and reality begins to blur in isolation. Performing the work will be the full cast from the musical's 2021 concept recording, with Slater starring as Ben, Norbert Leo Butz as Henry, and Lilli Cooper as Kath.

The new series from the Off-Broadway company invites company-affiliated artists to present their latest work. In this case, that would be Slater, who starred in the theatre's 2022 revival of Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's AssassinsEdge of the World is the first musical written by Slater and Blaemire as a team. The two previously shared the stage as mortal enemies SpongeBob SquarePants and Plankton in the pre-Broadway tryout of The SpongeBob Musical, which also co-starred Cooper as Sandy Plankton.

“I’m thrilled to have Ethan back at CSC with this fantastic musical that he and Nick have created,” says Producing Artistic Director Jill Rafson in a statement. “CSC has such an incredible group of artists who have made an impact on our stage over our storied history, and I love that we have this new series to make sure they can come back again and again. Edge of the World is a great way to launch the program, and I can't wait to share everything else we have in store in the season ahead from the artists who call CSC home.”
