Company has confirmed that two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone has tested positive for COVID-19.

LuPone is currently playing Joanne in the acclaimed Broadway revival, a role she previously inhabited on the West End, earning an Olivier award.

The production has released the following statement: "As part of the production's COVID protocols, Patti LuPone reported symptoms before the matinee of Company on Saturday, February 26 and received an additional COVID test which came back positive. Overnight, a second test confirmed the diagnosis.

LuPone is expected to return to the show on Tuesday, March 8. To ensure the safety of everyone at the Jacobs Theatre, increased testing protocols were automatically triggered.

Tony nominee Jennifer Simard, currently playing Sarah while understudying for LuPone, debuted her Joanne on February 26. It is expected that she and Anisha Nagarajan, LuPone's other understudy, will share the role until LuPone's return.

This gender-swapped revival of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s musical stars Katrina Lenk as Bobbie and is directed by two-time Tony winner Marianne Elliott. Elliott collaborated with composer Sondheim to re-imagine certain characters as the opposite gender. Bobby’s trio of girlfriends (Marta, Kathy, and April) are now boyfriends PJ, Theo, and Andy; the soon-to-be married (or not) Amy and Paul are now Jamie and Paul. In addition to gender swaps, the production introduces several updates to the lyrics and Furth’s book to bring the story into present day. The production received four Olivier awards for its 2019 West End debut.
