The reviews are in for the world premiere production of Exception to the Rule by Dave Harris. The new play officially opened May 18 at Roundabout Underground's Black Box Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. Previews for limited engagement, set to run through June 26, began April 28. Roundabout Resident Director Miranda Haymon helms the production.
The play centers on six Black students stuck together, fighting and flirting their way through detention at the worst school in the city. The ensemble cast includes MaYaa Boateng, Malik Childs, Mister Fitzgerald, Toney Goins, Amandla Jahava, and Claudia Logan.
The production is part of the Off-Broadway company's Friel Project, presenting four of playwright Brian Friel's plays set in the fictional town of Ballybeg.
The Hunt is the second adaptation of a Thomas Vinterberg work presented by St. Ann’s Warehouse, following its 2012 U.S. premiere of Grzegorz Jarzyna’s Festen.
