Call Me From the Grave, a new musical about the life and legend of blues musician Robert Johnson, will receive a series of developmental readings later this month in NYC.
Hosted by Amas Musical Theatre and the Amas Musical Theatre Lab, the readings will be held December 9 and 10. With music and lyrics by Charlie Romano, and a book by Harold Hodge, Jr., the readings will be directed by Tiffany Nichole Greene (Hamilton).
The reading will star Melvin Abston (Purlie Victorious), Bradwin L. Amos, April Armstrong (Ragtime), Kris Coleman, John Harmon Cooper, Bradley Gibson (A Bronx Tale), Danielle Lee Greaves (The Connector), Alan H. Green (School of Rock), Danyele Yvonne James, Caitlyn Joi, Cameron Keitt (The Skin of Our Teeth), Ashley LaLonde (Hamilton), Aaron James McKenzie (A Beautiful Noise), Christiani Pitts (A Bronx Tale) and Rick Younger (Mean Girls).
“Robert Johnson is the seminal blues figure who purportedly sold his soul the devil to be the best blues guitarist on earth,” said Donna Trinkoff, artistic producer of Amas Musical Theatre. “With a beautiful blues-infused score, Call Me from the Grave explores the test of Robert’s faith between his love of family and fame.”
Call Me From the Grave will feature music direction by Paul Byssainthe, Jr. Kai Stanton is serving as stage manager, with Benjamin A. Vigil as assistant stage manager. Casting is by Koppel Casting.
