The Barrow Group will unveil a new performing arts center in midtown Manhattan. Announced today, the $4 million center will aim to bring new energy to the entertainment scene in New York City.
The Barrow Group currently offers in-person and online workshops, a 1-year program, and a variety of classes. During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the group bid farewell to their home and transitioned to an online-only format for training. Among the actors trained by the group are Anne Hathaway, Tony Hale (Arrested Development), Poorna Jagannathan (Never Have I Ever), and Zach Booth (Broadway's To Kill A Mockingbird).
"One of The Barrow Group’s central purposes is to empower artists, whether it be in an Off-Broadway production, a reading, or a virtual workshop," shares Executive Director Robert Yu Serrell. "This purpose and our commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and excellence guided us through the pandemic and is the backbone of our new performing arts center."
Co-Artistic Director Lee Brock added to the sentiment, saying "We’re humbled that so many artists came together online and that we were able to welcome new students from across the globe. We believe that social connection is essential to a healthy society and that the arts play a significant role in fostering community."
The new performing arts center will feature a 60-person theatre, 5 studios, offices, and a community space. With renovations starting in February, the center is expected to open April 2022.
