Wanted, the new musical formerly known as Gun & Powder, will arrive on Broadway in 2026. A Broadway theatre has yet to be announced.
Obie winner and Tony nominee Stevie Walker-Webb is directing with musical direction by Austin Cook. A workshop of the musical, inspired by the true story of sisters Mary and Martha Clarke, will be held in June.
The production also announced that TRATE Productions’ Robyn and Evan Coles have joined the producing team, and Chelsey Arce is the new choreographer.
Featuring a book and lyrics by Angelica Chéri, who is a descendant of the Clarke sisters, and music by Ross Baum, Wanted follows Mary and Martha Clarke, Black twin sisters who take extraordinary measures to settle their mother’s sharecropper debt and save her home in 1893 Texas.
“We’re thrilled to unveil the new title Wanted as we head toward Broadway,” said P3 Productions (Ben Holtzman, Sammy Lopez, Fiona Rudin) and TRATE Productions (Robyn Coles and Evan Coles) in a statement. “This project has grown and evolved over the past few years, and we feel this new title best reflects the musical and story in its final form. Following our run at Paper Mill Playhouse, we believe the show’s story of resilience and perseverance is timelier than ever, and we remain committed to championing this bold, original, and action-packed new musical.”
Casting and additional creative team members will be announced at a later date.
Under its original title, Gun & Powder, the musical played the Paper Mill Playhouse in spring 2024. The cast included Liisi LaFontaine (West End's Dreamgirls) as Martha Clarke, Ciara Renée (Waitress) as Mary Clarke, Jeannette Bayardelle (Girl From the North Country) as Tallulah Clarke, Aaron James McKenzie (A Beautiful Noise) as Elijah, and Hunter Parrish (To Kill a Mockingbird) as Jesse Whitewater. Tiffany Rea-Fisher was the choreographer.
