The video, which is entitled One Last Look and can be viewed above, follows Steele as he walks through the Broadway theatre district towards the Imperial Theatre, which was the home of The Great Comet. The actor walks through the stage door, onto the Imperial stage, and takes a seat in the house, which offers a haunting view of the empty stage, which is in the midst of being taken apart now that the musical has closed.
One Last Look features an arrangement of Great Comet composer Dave Malloy's “Goodbye My Gypsy Lovers” by Steele, who also sings the tune.
About the video, Steele told Playbill, “For some time now I have been meaning to record a cover version of ’Goodbye My Gypsy Lovers.’ It is such a beautiful melody. I always had plans of setting it in a major key—as opposed to the minor key from the show—knowing that some day I would need to use it as a goodbye myself. I wasn't going to be playing Anatole forever. When I heard the fans singing it outside the stage door after our closing performance, I knew that now was the time. It was the least I could do to thank them for their support on this extraordinary journey.
“The very next day after we closed, I returned to the theater to pick up a few odds and ends that I had left behind in my dressing room. I had so often walked to work wondering what each days performance(s) would bring. This day I was very much aware that I would be seeing our dear Comet for the last time...and to an already faded extent. The giant billboards had all swiftly been taken down outside. The crew had started work inside the theater earlier that morning. Still, I wanted to take one last look at the space. To remember what we had truly accomplished. I decided to catalogue that moment. To capture my own moment of goodbye. That's what this short film is.”
