Ed McVey is going from the Playhouse to the Palace! The 21 year-old had been working front of house for the Olivier-winning revival of Cabaret before booking the highly coveted role of Prince William in Netflix's The Crown. A graduate of London's prestigious Drama Centre, he will be portraying the future King throughout his late teens and early 20s.

Appearing in the sixth and final season of the long running period drama, McVey will portray the Prince throughout his years at the University of St. Andrews, including his courtship of Kate Middleton, the future Duchess of Cambridge. The Crown will mark McVey's professional screen debut. Prior to joining the front of house team at the Playhouse Theatre, McVey understudied Him in Camp Siegfried at London's Old Vic.

The production congratulated McVey on Twitter.

The fifth season of The Crown will be released by Netflix in November, featuring Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II; Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret; Jonathan Pryce as the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip; Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana; and Dominic West as Charles, the Prince of Wales.

Cabaret continues its run at the Playhouse Theatre in London's West End. Fra Fee and Amy Lennox currently star as the Emcee and Sally Bowles, respectively, with Callum Scott Howells and Madeline Brewer set to succeed them from October 3.
