From Macbeth to the big screen! Daniel Craig will lead the highly anticipated sequel to Knives Out—written, directed, and produced by Rian Johnson—which will close the 66th BFI London Film Festival October 16 in the Royal Festival Hall at the Southbank Centre, in addition to being simultaneously screened across the U.K.

The sequel sees Craig reprising his role as Detective Benoit Blanc, along with appearances by Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr., Kathryn Hahn (who starred in the 2008 Broadway revival of Boeing-Boeing), Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista. Johnson is expected to attend the festival’s closing night gala, along with confirmed cast members Craig, Odom Jr., Norton, Monáe, Hudson, and Cline.

“I’m thrilled to be back at LFF with Glass Onion, and it’s an honor to be closing the festival. A proper whodunnit really does belong in London, so it feels a bit like coming home,” says Johnson.

“Like its predecessor, Glass Onion is entertaining and culturally literate in equal measure, making some hilarious, razor sharp observations about the world we live in,” adds BFI London Film Festival Director Tricia Tuttle.

The first Knives Out movie, which starred notable Broadway players Christopher Plummer, Michael Shannon, Chris Evans, and Toni Collette, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay (Johnson), three Golden Globe Awards including Best Motion Picture (Musical and Comedy), and two Hollywood Critics Association Awards, winning one for Best Cast. The successor is set to release on Netflix later in 2022.

The festival occurs October 5–October 16 and will open with Netflix’s star-studded Matilda: The Musical, based on Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin's musical adaptation of the popular children's novel by Roald Dahl.
