Kathleen Chalfant, who is currently aboard Playbill’s Broadway in Venice Cruise as a performer through September 22, received the Orizzonti prize for best actress at the 81st Venice Film Festival September 7.
Chalfant was honored for her starring performance in the film Familiar Touch, directed by Sarah Friedland, about a woman moving into an assisted living facility. The work also won the Lion of the Future award for best debut feature, and the best director prize in the Orizzonti section for Friedland.
On Broadway, Chalfant's credits include M. Butterfly, Angels in America: Millenium Approaches, Angels in America: Perestroika, and Racing Demon. She was last seen on stage Off-Broadway in the Pulitzer Prize finalist play Here There Are Blueberries (which will soon launch an international tour).
