The work of the late Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer-lyricist Jonathan Larson (Rent; tick, tick…BOOM!) will be celebrated in March at 92NY.

Louder Than Words: The Songs and Legacy of Jonathan Larson, part of the current Lyrics & Lyricists season, will be presented March 1 at 7:30 PM, March 2 at 2 PM, and March 3 at 7:30 PM at the famed Manhattan venue.

Artistic Director James C. Nicola—former artistic director of New York Theatre Workshop, where Larson's Rent was first workshopped and produced—will host the performances, which will bring focus to Larson's lyrics. Bringing to life his work will be Adam Kantor, L Morgan Lee, DeMone Seraphin, Rotana Tarazbouni, and Keaton Whittaker.

The performers will be backed by Aaron Heick on saxophones and woodwinds, Tia Allen on violin and viola, Sherrod Barnes on guitar, Jonathan Linden on guitar, George Farmer on bass, and Ashley Baier on drums.

Each of the three performances will also include special guests whose own work was influenced by Larson: Jonathan Larson Grant recipients Michael R. Jackson (A Strange Loop), Anna K. Jacobs (Teeth), and Grace McLean (Suffs) March 1; Zoe Sarnak (The Lonely Few), and Julian Hornik (The Painter and The Thief) March 2; and Shaina Taub (Suffs) and Daniel and Patrick Lazour (We Live in Cairo) March 3.

The creative team also includes writer Elizabeth Addison, director Michael Breslin, and music director Jacinth Greywoode. Stephanie Alvarado Prugh is the artistic producer.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to examine and celebrate Jonathan’s work as a lyric writer; he’s never really had that kind of consideration,” says Nicola in a statement. “We’ll also be looking at his influence on the next generation of musical theatre composers and lyricists. His legacy is huge with so many directly inspired by him, including our cast members and creative team. And each of the three performances will have a special guest whose work in musical theatre is the result of Jonathan’s influence.”

Lesser-known songs by the late composer will also be examined Off-Broadway in The Jonathan Larson Project, which is scheduled to begin performances February 14 at the Orpheum. Get a sneak peek at that production by clicking here.
