Elton John recently dropped in to the world premiere of his newest musical The Devil Wears Prada, playing Chicago's James M. Nederlander Theatre through August 21. See John, who penned music for the new musical, visit the cast below.
Based on the 2006 film and 2003 novel, the musical adaptation features a score with music by John and lyrics by Shaina Taub (Suffs) and a book by Kate Wetherhead (Submissions Only). Tony winner Beth Leavel and Taylor Iman Jones lead the cast as Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs, respectively. Also featured in the cast are Javier Muñoz (Hamilton, In the Heights) as Nigel Owens, Christiana Cole as Lauren, Megan Masako Haley (Wicked, Mean Girls) as Emily Charlton, Tiffany Mann (Be More Chill, Waitress) as Kayla, Michael Tacconi (The Cher Show) as Nate Angstrom, and Christian Thompson (Ain’t Too Proud) as Christian Thompson.
The musical follows the fictional Runway Magazine, run by the ruthlessly exacting Miranda Priestly, and Andy Sachs, who starts her career there as Priestly's assistant.
At the helm is Tony winner Anna D. Shapiro, leading a creative team that also includes music supervisor Nadia DiGiallonardo (Waitress), choreographer James Alsop (Beyoncé's "Run the World," Girls5Eva), costume designer Arianne Phillips, scenic and media designers Christine Jones (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and Brett Banakis (The Cher Show), lighting designer Paule Constable, and sound designer Nevin Steinberg (Hadestown, Hamilton). Orchestrations are by Giles Martin.
