Broadway News Spamalot Announces Broadway Closing Date

The Monty Python comedy revival began performances at the St. James Theatre last October.

Company of Spamalot Matthew Murphy and Evan Zimmerman

The Broadway revival of Monty Python's Spamalot has announced its final performance is set for April 7, 2024. The production will have played 17 previews and 164 regular performances at the time of closing. But always look on the bright side of life—a national tour is set to launch in fall 2025.

Spamalot opened November 16, 2023 at the St. James Theatre, after beginning performances October 31. Read the reviews here. The show transferred to Broadway after a previous run at the Kennedy Center.

"I am so proud of the entire cast, creative team, musicians and crew for their hard work and for delivering the highest level of joy and laughter back on Broadway when we need this more than ever,” said producer Jeffrey Finn in a statement. “I’m also honored to continue the long legacy of Kennedy Center productions transferring to Broadway so audiences beyond D.C. can experience this glorious production of Spamalot at the St. James Theatre.”

The production stars Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart (Aladdin, Hamilton) as King Arthur, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer (Beetlejuice) as The Lady of the Lake, Tony nominee Christopher Fitzgerald (Waitress) as Patsy, Tony nominee Ethan Slater (SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical) as The Historian/Prince Herbert, Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice) as Lancelot, Jimmy Smagula (Billy Elliot) as Sir Bedevere, Jonathan Bennett as Sir Robin, and Nik Walker (Hamilton) as Sir Galahad.

Based on the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the musical follows King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table on their quest for the Holy Grail, complete with coconut-shell horse hooves, a run-in with the Knights Who Say "Ni!," and more.

The musical, which took home the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2005, features a book by Eric Idle and a score by Idle and John Du Prez. Josh Rhodes directs and choreographs the revival after staging the production's premiere at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., earlier in 2023.

The production features scenic and projection design by Paul Tate dePoo III, costume design by Jen Caprio, lighting design by Cory Pattak, sound design by Kai Harada and Haley Parcher, wig design by Tom Watson, and music direction by John Bell. Casting is by JZ Casting. Matthew Lacey serves as the production stage manager, and RCI Theatricals serves as general manager.
