Glinda and Elphaba's friendship and Boq's character development get more screen time.

It has been three days since Wicked flew into the homes of fans across the world, with the first half of the two-part film adaptation of the international hit musical available on video on demand beginning December 31.

The digital release also had a number of deleted and extended scenes, full of surprises and information that may tip off fans as to what is in store in the second film, expected later this year.

While there are 10 extended and deleted scenes, the most impactful involve the bonds of trust between Elphaba and Glinda, Elphaba and Boq, and Glinda and Fiyero.

One scene, called Elphaba’s Promise, sees Glinda confront Elphaba after she and Fiyero rescued the lion cub. In the scene, which showcases Glinda's insecurity in a way not otherwise present in the film, she vows to Elphaba that she would have helped her rescue the cub too, and that putting her under the sleeping spell with the rest of the other students wasn't necessary. Elphaba pledges to trust her moving forward, making the moment of schism between the pair during "Defying Gravity" even more shattering, as Glinda proves unable to live up to her promise. Perhaps she'll finally make good on it in Part Two?

Also of note is how Glinda and Elphaba discuss Fiyero in the scene; it is clear that Glinda knows more went on in the forest between Elphaba and Fiyero, but she is unable to confront Elphaba about the specifics of the encounter. In fact, she seems more concerned that Elphaba didn't choose her than the fact that Elphaba chose Glinda's self proclaimed future-husband as her partner in crime. Perhaps a bit of foreshadowing for Ariana Grande's publicly professed belief that Elphaba is Glinda's true love, and that love may be something stronger than friendship?

Of all of the excised scenes, the selection called "Boq and Elphaba Talk" has the strongest argument for needing to be included in the final cut. Set on the train platform immediately before Elphaba's journey to the Emerald City, it is the closest look available for the character of Boq. In the sequence, Elphaba challenges Boq to face the truth about his lack of feelings for Nessarose, only for Boq to immediately confront her with her stifled feelings for Fiyero. When Elphaba refutes Boq's observation, he freezes her out, stating "Oh. I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I thought we were being honest." The two minute sequence, which was cut before CGI was even rendered, is chilling foreshadowing for who Boq becomes in Act Two of the musical, the continuing decline of his friendship with Elphaba and Nessarose, and Elphaba's unfulfilled feelings for Fiyero.

The additional extended and deleted scenes include the following:

    • Pfannee & ShenShen meet Glinda: Reunited at Shiz University, Glinda, Pfannee, and ShenShen recall their past by performing a twirling routine together
    • Shiz Gazette introduces Fiyero: Excitement spreads across Shiz as word gets out that Prince Fiyero is on his way.
    • An extended scene of Elphaba and Fiyero in the forest with the lion cub.
    • Train Platform Farewell: Glinda, Madame Morrible, and Governor Thropp gather to send Elphaba off to Emerald City.
    • An extended train ride to the Emerald City.
    • An extended Emerald City sequence.
    • An extended chase sequence featuring the flying monkeys.
    • An extended hair-tossing sequence during "Popular."
