DESCRIPTION

Brooklyn Youth Chorus is seeking enthusiastic and reliable Event Staff to play a crucial role in the successful execution of Port(al). These individuals will be responsible for facilitating audience movement during the performance, ensuring a smooth and engaging experience for all attendees as they travel through the historic Agger Fish Building. Event Staff will also perform standard usher duties, contributing to a positive front-of-house environment. This position requires individuals with some familiarity with live theater or event production.

Port(al) is a groundbreaking, site-specific choral theater experience presented by the GRAMMY Award-winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus. This innovative production delves into the history of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, exploring its past as a bustling port and its evolution within the ever-changing tides of the city. Housed within the unrenovated Agger Fish Building, Port(al) utilizes the entirety of the warehouse space, creating a unique and immersive journey for the audience. REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE

Training/Dress Rehearsals:

April 29, 2025, 2:30 PM - 9:30 PM
April 30, 2025, 6:00 PM - 9:30 PM

Performances:

May 1, 2025, 6:30 PM - 10:00 PM
May 2 & 3, 2025, 6:30 PM - 10:00 PM

RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitate audience transitions between performance areas within the Agger Fish Building, guiding and directing audience flow according to the show's progression.
Develop a strong understanding of the Port(al) performance flow and spatial layout to effectively assist audience members.
Provide clear and concise directions to audience members throughout the performance, enhancing their understanding of this unique theatrical experience.
Scan tickets and distribute programs to audience members upon arrival.
Maintain a safe and orderly environment within the performance space.
Assist with other front-of-house tasks as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Commitment to all listed dates (April 29 & 30 for training/dress rehearsals, and May 1, 2, & 3 for performances) is required.
Some experience in live theater, event production, or a related field is required.
Familiarity with the workings of backstage and front-of-house operations in a live production setting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take initiative.
Reliability and punctuality are essential.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
