Casting has been announced for the American premiere of the Broadway-aimed musical Backbeat, about the birth of the Beatles, to begin Jan. 20 at the Center Theatre Group's Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. Some players from the London run will reunite.
The 2012-13 Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre season will feature Jeff Goldblum in the Broadway production of Theresa Rebeck's Seminar; the American premiere and pre-Broadway run of the musical Backbeat, about the birth of the Beatles; Tony Award nominee Tracie Bennett in End of the Rainbow; and the Los Angeles premiere of The Scottsboro Boys, among other works.
Backbeat, the stage version of the 1994 film of the same name about the birth of the Beatles, will shutter Feb. 18, 2012, at the West End's Duke of York's Theatre. It was originally booking through March 24.
