Burgess' novel was adapted into a full stage production by Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 1994. A musical version was also staged in London in 2011. Earlier, Burgess' unique story was turned into an Oscar-nominated film by Stanley Kubrick in 1971 starring Malcolm McDowell as Alex. The landmark film has since gained cult status, and McDowell returned to the role briefly for a benefit reading at Manhattan's Theatre Club in 1997.
The Off-Broadway staging's creative team includes Nicholas Civitello as assistant director, Kimberly Gray as co-producer and assistant costume designer, Kate Szekely as stage manager, Frank Alfano Jr. as fight coordinator, Scott Tedmon-Jones as set designer, Jon Can Coskunses as head costume designer, Sarah Huyck as lighting designer and Michael Blouin as assistant fight coordinator.
