The Frank Wildhorn-Leslie Bricusse-Steve Cuden musical Jekyll & Hyde is being adapted for the screen. Oscar-winning Birdman scribe Alexander Dinelaris (Broadway's On Your Feet!) is writing the screenplay for the film, which he will also produce.
The screen adaptation of the 1997 musical is the first project from a partnership between Dinelaris and Rob Quadrino’s Lexicon banner and Richard Saperstein’s Bluestone Entertainment. Also attached as producers are Fezziwig Studios’ Dan Angel, Brian Gott, and Marc Iannarino. Phil Kim and David Segel will serve as executive producers.
With music by Wildhorn, book by Bricusse, and lyrics by Bricusse and Cuden, Jekyll & Hyde features such songs as the anthemic “This Is the Moment,” “A New Life,” and “Someone Like You.”
The stage take on Robert Louis Stephenson’s gothic thriller premiered on Broadway in 1997, starring Robert Cuccioli and Linda Eder. Constantine Maroulis and Deborah Cox headlined a 2013 revival. The original Broadway production was filmed for a television release with David Hasselhoff in the title role(s).
An exclusive New York City concert celebrating the screen adaptation will take place March 21 featuring Cox, Laura Osnes, Matthew James Thomas, and Bonnie Milligan.
