Actor, singer, and voice teacher John A. Waddell has died. Mr. Waddell was 83.
Based in Bloomington, Illinois, Mr. Waddell was a trailblazing opera and theatre performer, touring internationally with Don Carlos and HAIR before he returned to the United States in the 1980s, where he became a beloved vocal coach. As a teacher, Mr. Waddell coached such Broadway luminaries as Brandon Victor Dixon, Jessica Vosk, Robert Fowler, Felicia P. Fields, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Angela Robinson, Soara-Joye Ross, and many, many more.
In 2023, Mr. Waddell was honored as an Unsung Hero of Broadway by the American Theatre Wing for his contributions to the community.
Three celebrations of life will be held in Bloomington, in Normal, Illinois; New York, New York; and Hamburg, Germany. Timing for all services will be announced at a later date.
