Following multiple Off-Broadway runs last year, Alex Edelman is bringing Just For Us to Broadway. Previews will begin June 22 in the Hudson Theatre where the 2023 Obie-winning solo show will open June 26. The limited engagement has been set through August 19.
Just For Us features stories from Edelman's life such as tales about his brother AJ, an Olympian athlete, and having an unconventional holiday season. At the core of the show, however, is Edelman's personal experiences with anti-Semitic abuse, his decision to crash a New York City gathering of White Nationalists incognito, and the aftermath of that encounter in an exploration identity and our capacity for empathy. Adam Brace (Literally Who Cares?!) will continue as director.
The stand-up comedian originally premiered the work in 2018 at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. It then transferred to London's Soho Theater and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, earning a Barry Award nomination and the Herald Angel Award along the way. It's Off-Broadway tenure began with a premiere at Cherry Lane Theatre before it moved to SoHo Playhouse and then Greenwich House Theater.
The Broadway bow is produced by Jenny Gersten, Rachel Sussman, and Seaview, with Mike Birbiglia. Birbiglia originally produced Just For Us Off-Broadway in association with Mike Lavoie, Carlee Briglia and Joseph Birbiglia.
