
The film is based on the novel by David Nicholls, which was a best-seller in England. Hathaway will play a woman from the working class who falls for a rich man (played by Jim Sturgess of "Across the Universe"). The film will be directed by Oscar nominee Lone Scherfig ("An Education") and produced by Focus Features and Random House Films.
Hathaway appeared in Shakespeare in the Park's Twelfth Night last summer, in the Encores! concert production of Carnival! and in Jane Eyre and Gigi at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse. She received an Oscar nomination for "Rachel Getting Married." Other screen credits include "Alice in Wonderland," "Becoming Jane," "The Devil Wears Prada," "Brokeback Mountain," "Ella Enchanted" and "The Princess Diaries."
