2022 Tony Awards host Ariana DeBose has joined the cast of Chris Pine's upcoming drama Poolman, alongside Jennifer Jason Leigh, and the previously announced Pine, Annette Bening, and Danny DeVito, according to Deadline. The movie will be the Into the Woods movie actor's directorial debut.

DeBose, whose Broadway credits include portraying Disco Donna in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical; Jane in A Bronx Tale the Musical; and the bullet in Hamilton, won an Oscar and SAG Award for her role of Anita in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story

She will go on to make her superhero debut as Calypso in Kraven the Hunter, star in a rom-com that's been described as a queer, Latinx twist of My Best Friend's Wedding, and host the 2022 Tony Awards June 12. She was also recently confirmed to be playing a recurring role in the fourth season of HBO's Westworld.

Leigh, Bening, and DeVito have all accumulated stage credits as well. Leigh portrayed Sally Bowles in Studio 54's production of Cabaret in 1998, and starred in Proof and The House of Blue Leaves. Two-time Tony nominee Bening made her Broadway debut in the original cast of Coastal Disturbances, and was also seen in the 2019 revival of Arthur Miller's All My Sons. DeVito was nominated for a Tony for starring in the Broadway revival of The Prince, alongside Mark Ruffalo, Tony Shalhoub, and Jessica Hecht.

Poolman follows hapless dreamer Darren Barrenman (Pine) who uncovers a water heist in Los Angeles and forms an alliance with a femme fatale while tracking down corrupt city officials and other Hollywood offenders. Pine will direct and the script was written in collaboration between Pine and co-writers Ian Gotler, Bening and DeVito. 

It will be produced by Pine, Stacey Sher, and Patty Jenkins with cinematography by Matthew Jensen. Production is slated to start in June.
