On the heels of a very promising 2022-2023 season grosses report released by The Broadway League, Broadway seems to be doing well week-to-week currently as well—last week was the final week of the 2022-2023 season, which began May 23, 2022, and ended May 21, 2023. With 34 currently running shows, Broadway brought in just under $33 million, part of a continuing upward trend seen in recent weeks.

Speaking of upward trends, Broadway's Some Like It Hot's fortunes seem to be on the rise. With 13 2023 Tony nominations—the most of any show this season—the show may be showing the power of the Tony Awards. The musical broke into the $1 Million Club last week for the first time since New Year's, the latest high in a notable uptick in box office since Tony nominations were announced May 2. These numbers show how important Tony Awards can be to the run of a Broadway show, making it even more cause to celebrate that this year's Tonys are happening at all.

And it's not the only show getting Tony love. New York, New York has been in the $1 Million Club since Tony nominations were revealed, while Parade and Prima Facie have continued to bring in solid numbers as well. Parade broke $1 million at the box office last week with $1,012,449.95, even as the production was down its Tony-winning star Ben Platt (understudy Max Chernin played Leo Frank last weekend).

Sweeney Todd continues to be the best performing of this season's new shows, with its box office continuing to creep ever closer to the $2 million mark. The show was the third highest-grossing on Broadway last week, bringing in $1.87 million and playing to 99.7%-full houses. With the production up for Best Revival and both of its stars—Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford—up for Tonys themselves, this year's ceremony could well send an already successful production to new heights.

Attendance continues to be high, with 20 of 34 currently running shows playing to 90% or more of their seats filled. Family shows continue to be the best attended, with WickedAladdin, and The Lion King topping the list of most theatregoers welcomed. A new entry in that group is New York, New York, which performed for 11,891 people last week, thanks in part to the large capacity at the St. James.
