A Connecticut native himself, An Opening in Time is inspired by his hometown of Wethersfield. Hedwall will play Anne, a retired school teacher who moves back to her suburban town in Connecticut only to find things have changed drastically. The play looks at the way in which we find connections in an ever-changing world.
Helmed by Oliver Butler, the cast also features Broadway actors Kati Brazda (A Moon for the Misbegotten); Molly Camp (The Heiress); Bill Christ (Born Yesterday); Patrick Clear (Noises Off ); as well as Mike Keller, Karl Miller and Brandon Smalls.
Performances will run Sept. 17 through Oct. 11.
Shinn is a Pulitzer finalist for Dying City, presented at Hartford Stage in their 2008-09 season. He is also the winner of an Obie Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship in Playwriting. His earlier plays include Four, Now or Later, What Didn’t Happen and his Broadway adaptation of Hedda Gabler. His play Teddy Ferrara will premiere in London on Oct. 1.
"An Opening in Time is set right here in Connecticut, which makes it doubly exciting to be premiering it at Hartford Stage," commented Hartford's associate artistic director Elizabeth Williamson in a press statement. "I've been an admirer of Chris' work since first reading Four many years ago, and this is perhaps my favorite of his plays to date." The creative team also includes set designer Antje Ellermann, costume desinger Ilona Somogyi, lighting designer Russell Champa and sound designer Jane Shaw. Cole P. Bonenberger will be the stage manager.
