Casting is complete for the London bow of Aaron Sorkin's stage adaptation of Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird, starring the previously announced Olivier and Emmy nominee Rafe Spall (Hedda Gabler, Betrayal, Black Mirror) as Atticus Finch.

Directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher, the production will open at the Gielgud Theatre March 31 following previews that begin March 10.

Joining Spall will be Harry Attwell as Mr. Cunningham/Boo Radley, Amanda Boxer as Mrs. Henry Dubose, Poppy Lee Friar as Mayella Ewell, John Hastings as Bailiff, Simon Hepworth as Mr. Roscoe/Dr Reynolds, Laura Howard as Miss Stephanie/Dill’s Mother, Lloyd Hutchinson as Link Deas, Gwyneth Keyworth as Scout Finch, Tom Mannion as Sheriff Heck Tate, David Moorst as Dill Harris, Pamela Nomvete as Calpurnia, Jim Norton as Judge Taylor, Patrick O’Kane as Bob Ewell, Jude Owusu as Tom Robinson, Harry Redding as Jem Finch, David Sturzaker as Horace Gilmer, and Natasha Williams as Mrs. Dubose’s Maid.

The ensemble features Helen Belbin, Laurence Belcher, Paul Birchard, Ryan Ellsworth, Rebecca Hayes, Danny Hetherington, Matthew Jure, Anna Munden, and Itoya Osagiede.

Spall previously replaced Rhys Ifans, who was announced in November 2019 to lead the West End production. At that time, the production was scheduled to begin in May 2020, though those plans were scrapped in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

To Kill a Mockingbird premiered in December 2018 at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre. On February 26, 2020—a few weeks before the Broadway shutdown—the Broadway cast gave a history-making free performance at Madison Square Garden in front of 18,000 New York City school children. The Broadway production, now starring Greg Kinnear, resumed in October.

To Kill a Mockingbird will launch its national tour March 27 at Shea’s Performing Arts Center in Buffalo, New York, starring Emmy winner Richard Thomas as Atticus Finch.

Joining Sher and the original Broadway creative team—set designer Miriam Buether, costume designer Ann Roth, lighting designer Jennifer Tipton, sound designer Scott Lehrer, composer Adam Guettel, music supervisor Kimberly Grigsby, and hair and wig designer Campbell Young Associates—are casting director Serena Hill, voice and dialect coach Hazel Holder, associate director Titas Halder, assistant director Rasheka Christie-Carter, cultural coordinator Tavia Rivée Jefferson, and musical director Candida Caldicot.

Set in Alabama in 1934, Harper Lee’s enduring story of racial injustice and childhood innocence centers on small-town lawyer Atticus Finch. The cast of characters includes Atticus’s daughter Scout, her brother Jem, their housekeeper and caretaker, Calpurnia, their visiting friend Dill, and a mysterious neighbor, the reclusive Arthur “Boo” Radley.

Barry Diller and Sonia Friedman produce.
