Broadway’s Jacquelyn Piro Donovan (Miss Saigon, Les Misérables) and Bob Walton (City of Angels, The Drowsy Chaperone) will star as Rose and Herbie, respectively, in the Riverside Theatre's upcoming production of the classic American musical Gypsy.
Directed and choreographed by James Brennan, performances are scheduled for March 6–25 on the Florida venue's Stark Stage.
The company will also feature Austen Danielle Bohmer as Louise, Charity Van Tassel as Dainty June, Christian Probst as Tulsa, Pam Bradley as Electra, Sue Cella as Tessie Tura, Mary Callanan as Mazeppa, D.C. Anderson as Georgie and Pop, Ray DeMattis as Uncle Jocko and Weber, Olivia Catherine Fanders as Baby June, and Quinn Wood as Baby Louise.
The ensemble cast includes Michael Peter Deeb, Adena Ershow, Chloe Fox, Brady Miller, Chris Robertson, Rachel Schimenti, Jennifer Seifter, Robbie Smith, Kelsey Stalter, and Madison Turner.
Riverside Theatre’s production also features six local children who study at the Children’s Theatre: David Calahan, Caleb Cope, Victoria Dowdell, Kristina Gregg, Charlotte Nafe, Bryce Roux, and Jenna Smith.
Gypsy features a score by Jule Styne (music) and Stephen Sondheim (lyrics) and a book by Arthur Laurents. The musical—with Ethel Merman as Rose—bowed on Broadway in May 1959 at the Broadway Theatre, playing 702 performances. Subsequent Broadway revivals have featured Angela Lansbury, Tyne Daly, Bernadette Peters, and Patti LuPone as Rose. A 1962 film cast Rosalind Russell as Rose with Natalie Wood as Gypsy Rose Lee; a 1993 TV version was led by Bette Midler in the lead role.
The creative team also includes music director Anne Shuttlesworth, scenic designer Cliff Simon, costume and wig designer Kurt Alger, lighting designer Michelle Habeck, sound designer Craig Beyrooti, production stage manager Mark Johnson, and assistant stage manager and Amy M. Bertacini. Casting was done in New York by Wojcik / Seay Casting.
