George Street Playhouse has announced the cast and creative team for their upcoming production of The Shark is Broken. Previews begin April 29 at the New Jersey venue, ahead of a May 3 opening night. The limited engagement will continue through May 18. Peter Flynn is set to direct.
The cast will include Jason Babinsky (Network) as Roy Scheider, Jeffrey M. Bender (A Time to Kill) as Robert Shaw, and Max Wolkowitz (The Sabbath Girl: The Musical) as Richard Dreyfuss. Casting is by McCorkle Casting.
Written by Ian Shaw (son of Jaws cast member and The Shark Is Broken character Robert Shaw) and Joseph Nixon, the work takes audiences behind the scenes of one of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters as its three stars try to cope with foul weather, a temperamental mechanical shark, and each other's egos. The play premiered at Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2019, later playing London's West End and, in 2023, Broadway.
The production will feature scenic design by Anne Mundell (The Humans), costume design by Siena Zoë Allen (Maybe Tomorrow), lighting design by Alan Edwards (Harry Clark), sound design by Joanna Lynne Staub (Mother of the Maid), and projection design by Adam J. Thompson (The Turn of the Screw). Christina M. Woolard will serve as production stage manager.
