Chazz Palminteri returns to Broadway May 24 in A Bronx Tale, the musical based on his solo show that also inspired the 1993 film of the same name. The Oscar nominee takes on the role of Sonny on weekday performances, becoming the first actor to play the same part in a play, film, and stage musical.

Original cast member and Tony nominee Nick Cordero continues with the show, playing Sonny—a mobster who takes a young Italian-American under his wing—on Saturday and Sunday performances at the Longacre Theatre.

Palminteri, who also wrote the book for the musical, first performed his solo show A Bronx Tale, inspired by his own younger years, on the West Coast before a 1989 Off-Broadway premiere. He later returned to the story for the Robert De Niro-helmed film adaptation, penning the screenplay and taking on the role of Sonny, leading him to such additional film performances as The Usual Suspects and Bullet Over Broadway, for which he earned an Oscar nomination. In 2007, he brought the solo show to Broadway for a limited run.

The current cast also includes Adam Kaplan as Calogero, Richard H. Blake as Lorenzo, the King Kong-bound Christiani Pitts as Jane, Hudson Loverro and Levi Smith as Young Calogero, Lucia Giannetta as Rosina, and Bradley Gibson as Tyrone.

The musical adaptation, featuring music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and co-directed by Jerry Zaks and De Niro, officially opened on Broadway in December 2016; a national tour is scheduled to launch in October.
