Clue, the stage adaptation of the cult favorite film, is continuing its whirlwind success and crossing the pond as Cluedo. Since Broadway Licensing Global announced that Cluedo was coming soon for U.K. theatres, interest has been so high that the licensing company has moved up release and is now accepting license applications for the title.
Adapted from the 1985 film and the board game from which both are inspired, Cluedo is written by Sandy Rustin with additional material by Hunter Foster, Eric Price, and Mark Bell, based on the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn. It features original music by Michael Holland. The work sees six mysterious guests converge on Boddy Manor for a night they'll never forget—if they get out alive.
The work premiered at Bucks County Playhouse in 2017, and has since become a favorite at regional theatres and schools—the play has been the most-produced play at U.S. high schools for the last four years in a row. Retitled Cluedo to match the U.K. edition of the whodunit board game, the play reached U.K. audiences with a national tour in 2022. A U.S. national tour is currently on the road.
“Along with partners The Araca Group and Work Light Productions, we are thrilled for our friends at BLG to roll out Cluedo to the U.K. and internationally this year,” says Lively McCabe Entertainment CEO Michael Barra, who developed the work alongside BLG and Hasbro. “Audiences can expect a laugh a minute, while sorting out WHO the killer is, WHERE the murder occurred, and with WHAT weapon the deed was done."
