Broadway News Clyde Alves, Emily Skinner, Janet Dacal, More Join Cast of Broadway's New York, New York

Complete casting has been revealed for the upcoming musical with a score by John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Start spreading the news! Full casting has been revealed for Broadway's upcoming New York, New York, beginning performances March 24 ahead of an April 26 opening night at the St. James Theatre. As previously announced, the new musical, inspired by the 1977 film of the same name, will be led by Colton Ryan and Anna Uzele. Get a preview of the upcoming musical in the new trailer above.

Joining Ryan and Uzele in the cast will be Clyde Alves (On the Town) as Tommy Caggiano, John Clay III (Choir Boy) as Jesse Webb, Janet Dacal (In the Heights) as Sofia Diaz, Ben Davis (Dear Evan Hansen) as Gordon Kendrick, Oliver Prose as Alex Mann, Angel Sigala as Mateo Diaz, and Tony Award nominee Emily Skinner (Side Show) as Madame Veltri. Prose and Sigala both make their Broadway debuts with the production.

Inspired by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Motion Picture New York, New York, written by Earl M. Rauch and Mardik Martin, the new musical is set in 1946. The war is over, and a collection of artists has dreams as big and diverse as the city itself. Among them is Francine Evans (Uzele), a young singer just off the bus from Philly, who is destined for greatness. At least, until she encounters New York native Jimmy Doyle (Ryan), a brilliant but disillusioned musician.

“It is an incredible honor to present this new musical by a team of Broadway legends," say producers Sonia Friedman and Tom Kirdahy in a joint statement. "In New York, New York, audiences will experience the city like never before, following a group of hopeful dreamers as they each strive to follow their hearts and desires. It is a joyful celebration of New York and the power of community by some of the great New Yorkers, and we cannot wait for audiences near and far to come be a part of it all—the rhythm, the music, and the magic of a big, brand new Broadway musical.”

The musical is being directed and choreographed by five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman, with the book (reportedly only loosely based on the Scorsese-directed film) by David Thompson and Sharon Washington. All four of John Kander and Fred Ebb's songs written for the film will make the jump to the stage score, joining new songs by Kander and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is supplying additional lyrics throughout. Also on the creative team are music supervisor and arranger Sam Davis, orchestrators Daryl Waters and Davis, vocal arranger David Loud, and music director Alvin Hough, Jr.

Newly joining the creative team are scenic designer Beowulf Boritt (POTUS), costume designer Donna Zakowska (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), lighting designer Ken Billington (The Scottsboro Boys), sound designer Kai Harada (The Band's Visit), projection designer Christopher Ash (co-designing with Boritt), and hair and wig designer Sabana Majeed (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel). Johnny Milani will serve as production stage manager.

New York, New York is produced by Sonia Friedman and Tom Kirdahy, in association with MGM ON STAGE and Chartoff-Winkler.
