Constantine Maroulis and Teal Wicks will star in the world premiere of East Carson Street at Axelrod Performing Arts Center. The new musical will play the New Jersey company's Bell Theatre in Holmdel, NJ from May 3-May 12. Daniel Kutner (Prince of Broadway) will direct.
Featuring a book by Jonathan Rosenberg (Americano!, House of Dreams) and music and lyrics by Pittsburgh-based rock musician Joe Grushecky, East Carson Street follows four decades and three generations of the Popovics, a family living in Pittsburgh, who saw the lives of its citizens turned upside-down with the worst recession since World War II and the demise of the steel and coal industries in the area, leading to record-high unemployment numbers. Further casting will be announced soon.
The production will feature music direction by Jeff Levine, choreography by Michele Mossay, scenic design by Zoe Hurwitz, lighting design by Joel Silver, sound design by Jon Weston, and creative consultation by Patrick Jordan. East Carson Street is produced by special arrangement with All About Eve LLC, creators Rosenberg and Grushecky, and executive producer Cody Lassen.
