Black Broadway: A Proud History, A Limitless Future also features interviews with Brian Stokes Mitchell and E. Clayton Cornelious, among others.

Black Broadway: A Proud History, A Limitless Future—celebrating iconic stage performances made famous by Black artists—premieres on PBS February 28 at 8 PM ET; check local listings. The program, which is also available for streaming via the PBS App, will debut in the New York City area March 4 at 9 PM ET on WNET with a repeat broadcast March 7.

Filmed October 5, 2022, at Howard University’s Cramton Auditorium, the concert features Corbin Bleu performing “Make Them Hear You” from Ragtime, Nikki Renée Daniels singing “Being Alive” from Company and “Come Rain Or Come Shine” from St. Louis Woman, Tiffany Mann performing “Fools Fall in Love” from Smokey Joe’s Café and “I Got Love” from Purlie, Nova Payton belting out “I’m Here” from The Color Purple, Stephanie Mills re-creating her The Wiz showstopper “Home," Norm Lewis singing both “I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’” from Porgy and Bess and “Waiting for Life” from Once On This IslandJohn Manzari offering “Low Down Blues” from Shuffle Along, and teenage violinist Leah Flynn playing “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess.

Also on the bill: Hamilton's Amber Iman with “Learn to Love,” Grammy winner Sydney James Harcourt with “Stan’ Up An’ Fight,” drag artist Peppermint with the title song from Ain’t Misbehavin,’ and Payton returning to close the concert with “And I Am Telling You (I'm Not Going)” from Dreamgirls.

TV watchers can also expect interviews with Brian Stokes Mitchell, E. Clayton Cornelious, Allyson Tucker, and Ephraim Sykes. The concert will spotlight guest conductors Dr. Eric Conway (Morgan State University), Brittany Chanell Johnson (Howard University), Sean Mayes (Broadway’s Hadestown and MJ: The Musical), and Dr. Eric Poole (Howard University) plus a choir of students from HBCUs Howard University and Morgan State University. 

All of the artists are accompanied by the American Pops Orchestra, founded by music director Luke Frazier.
