Symphony Space's 2023 spring gala will include Songs From Cabaret, a concert of tunes from John Kander and Fred Ebb’s 1966 Tony-winning musical, hosted by Tony winner Danny Burstein. Produced and directed by Annette Jolles and Joel Fram, the performance will be held April 24 at 8 PM in the Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Symphony Space.
The evening will feature Heath Saunders (Company) as The Emcee, Adrianna Hicks (Some Like It Hot) as Sally Bowles, Jeff Kready (Company, Tootsie) as Clifford Bradshaw, Carolee Carmello (Bad Cinderella) as Fräulein Schneider, and Steven Skybell (Fiddler on the Roof) as Herr Schultz.
The ensemble will include Leanne Antonio (One Hit Wonder), Jerusha Cavazos (The Prom), Dan Domenech (Heathers: The Musical), Brian Flores (Head Over Heels), Marina Kondo (KPOP), Sarah Meahl (Bad Cinderella), Samantha Pollino (Sweeney Todd), Christian Probst (Bad Cinderella), and Alanna Saunders (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child).
Paul Staroba (Company) is the music director.
Jolles and Fram said in a joint statement, “We’re incredibly excited to be back at Symphony Space, celebrating this iconic Kander and Ebb score with an amazing cast of Broadway singers. The songs of Cabaret are as thrilling today as when they first premiered in 1966, and we look forward to being in one of our favorite spaces with some of our favorite artists, bringing these songs to life through extraordinary, contemporary voices.”
Based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood, Cabaret has music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Joe Masteroff.
Proceeds will help Symphony Space create, commission, and present impactful programming. It will also help the organization enhance the lives of New York City school children and adult learners through its arts education programs.
