As previously reported, Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher (South Pacific) is to helm the fall 2015 revival, which will be produced by Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel. Burstein (Cabaret, Golden Boy, South Pacific, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) was previously in discussion for the lead role. 

Performances will begin on Broadway Nov. 17, 2015, but no theatre for the revival has been announced. Rehearsals are to begin Sept. 28, 2015.

The revival will be based on the original conception and choreography of Jerome Robbins, who won a 1965 Tony Award for his direction and choreography of the musical, and will feature choreography by Israeli-born artist Hofesh Shechter.

The musical was last revived on Broadway in 2004 and starred Tony nominee Alfred Molina and Tony winner Randy Graff. Added to that Fiddler was a new song, written by Jerry Bock (music) and Sheldon Harnick (lyrics), called "Topsy-Turvy," an animated moment for Yente, the matchmaker, and the village women in Act Two.

The original production, which also features a book by Joseph Stein, opened on Broadway in 1964 and took home nine Tonys, including Best Musical.
