David Lindsay-Abaire was named the winner of the 2023 Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical at the 76th Annual Tony Awards, held at the United Palace in Washington Heights June 11.
Lindsay-Abaire won the prize for his work writing the book forKimberly Akimbo, adapted from his play of the same name. The win is his second for the evening, having won for Best Original Score along with composer Jeanine Tesori earlier in the ceremony.
These are Pulitzer winner Lindsay-Abaire's first Tony wins after six nominations in various categories. His previous nominations include Best Play nods for Rabbit Hole and Good People, Best Original Score for Shrek The Musical, and Best Book of a Musical for Shrek the Musical.
Others in the Best Book of a Musical category included & Juliet's David West Read, New York, New York's David Thompson and Sharon Washington, Shucked's Robert Horn, and Some Like It Hot's Matthew López and Amber Ruffin.
