Pasadena Playhouse has announced most of its 2017–2018 lineup, which will mark the first under the direction of new Producing Artistic Director Danny Feldman. To kick off the new season, the California theatre has teamed up with Tony-nominated Deaf West for a brand-new production of Thornton Wilder’s classic drama Our Town, starring Jane Kaczmarek.
Performances of Our Town will run September 26–October 22 with direction by Sheryl Kaller.
The season will continue with Mike Bartlett’s King Charles III, which played a hit run on Broadway in 2015. The play imagines the future of the British royal family after the Queen’s passing. Performances will run November 7–December 3.
Rounding out the season will be Chicago company The Hypocrites’ immersive adaptation of Pirates of Penzance, directed by Sean Graney (May 29–June 24, 2018), which is also set to play Off-Broadway, as well as Culture Clash’s Bordertown Now, a reimagined and revisited take on the group’s 1997 show Bordertown (May 29–June 24, 2018).
An additional play will be announced at a later date.
“Our 2017–18 season celebrates the bold, adventurous spirit that has always been at the heart of Pasadena Playhouse,” commented Feldman in a press statement. “From fresh takes on two of theatre’s most enduring classics, to a future history play in the style of Shakespeare, to a collaboration with LA’s most dynamic performance trio, the new season will entertain and create unforgettable experiences for our audiences just as we’ve been doing for 100 years.”
