Following its London Palladium engagement August 21-22, the English-language premiere of Death Note The Musical in Concert, as previously reported, will transfer to London's Lyric Theatre for six additional performances September 7-10. Due to demand, a seventh show has been added, with tickets now available for a 3 PM matinee September 8.
The cast will be led by Aimie Atkinson, Rachel Clare Chan, Jessica Lee, George Maguire, Carl Man, Christian Ray Marbella, Dean John-Wilson, and Joaquin Pedro Valdes with an ensemble featuring Boaz Chad, Charlotte Coggin, Jade Copas, Eu Jin Hwang, Yojiro Ichikawa, Deena Kapadia, Patrick Munday.
Due to scheduling conflicts, Adam Pascal is unable to transfer with the production to the Lyric.
Based on the best-selling Japanese manga series of the same name by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata/Sheuisha, the new musical has a score by Wildhorn with lyrics by Jack Murphy and a book by Ivan Menchell.
Death Note The Musical concerns Light Yagami, a high school student in Tokyo who comes across a discarded notebook owned by Ryuk, a mythological god of death. Discovering he can kill anyone by just writing their names in the supernatural notebook, Light takes justice into his own hands by filling the notebook with names of the nation’s most wanted criminals.
Nick Winston will direct and choreograph with associate direction and choreography by Alexzandra Sarmiento, costume design by Kimie Nakano, musical supervision by Katy Richardson, musical direction by Chris Ma, orchestrations by Jason Howland, design by Justin Williams, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Ben Harrison, and casting by Harry Blumenau.
Producers are Carter Dixon McGill Productions, Indie Theatrical, HoriPro Inc., and Pinnacle Productions in association with Greg A. DeLuca, Sharon Azrieli, and Wild Yak Productions.
The new musical premiered in 2015 in Tokyo, Japan. A 2022 Korean
production won four awards at the Korea Musical Awards after being
nominated in 10 categories.
