Fall Preview 2023 Feel Good Friday: See the Moment Wicked Tour Star Olivia Valli Told Her Family She'd Be Taking on Elphaba

The excited reactions of her loved ones captured on video is guaranteed to brighten your Friday after a long week.

Times may be hard, but there is still joy to be found, even after a long week. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a moment of emotional release. Welcome to Playbill's Feel Good Friday feature.

We couldn't be happier (!) for Wicked national tour star Olivia Valli, who shared a TikTok this week showing the moment she told her family and friends that she'd be taking on the role of Elphaba on the road.

The video compilation of her loved ones' reactions cuts from excited grins to full-on shouts of joy, one friend on FaceTime even dropping their phone to the ground in surprise. If this week felt particularly long, maybe thanks to that extra day of the month, we promise these clips will have you smiling along with them. See the full video below.

Valli played her first performance as the titular witch on May 2, 2023, and has since captured the hearts of theatregoers across the country, with one TikTok comment writing: "I just saw you perform last Thursday! You were my first Elphaba. I cried multiple times finally getting to see Wicked live. It was wonderful. You were stunning!"

@oliviafvalli Last year I got the call that I was going to be Elphaba on the Wicked National Tour. I couldnt have done it without my people ♥️ #elphaba #wickedthemusical ♬ Night Trouble - Petit Biscuit

If Valli's last name didn't already give you a hint—the performer was more than ready to defy gravity with the opportunity, with a long career on stage already under her belt, plus some great genes for vocal skills. Valli previously understudied as Elphaba on the national tour and also led Pretty Woman's first national tour as Vivian...and also made her Off-Broadway debut in 2021 playing her own grandmother. You read that right!

The granddaughter of Franki Valli stepped into her real-life grandmother's shoes onstage in Jersey Boys at New World Stages in 2021, playing Mary Delgado. With her own unique talent, plus her drive to make her family proud, we're excited to follow her journey through Oz, and wherever she flies next.

Have a great weekend, and check back next Friday for another feel good feature.
