For Her as a Piano, a co-production with Goodman Theatre and Chicago Dramatists, will officially open Oct. 4.
Helmed by Pegasus producing artistic director Ilesa Duncan, the play also features music composed by Jaret Landon, who is currently working on the Broadway-bound First Wives Club: The Musical. Performances are scheduled to run through Nov. 1.
In Kelley's new play, a woman embarks on a journey to unravel her family history, in the process tracing the lives of three generations of women and weaving music, memory and magic.
The cast features Nadirah Bost (Mary), Dushon Brown (Motha/Dirk), Toni Lynice Fountain (Delores), Nicole Michelle Haskins (Motha Mawu), Monette McLin (Motha Gbadu), Camille Robinson (Piano) and Toya Turner (Sarah).
"I am honored to reunite with Nambi Kelley – an extraordinary talent one of my favorite writers – and Jaret Landon – one of Chicago’s most prodigious musical talents," said Duncan in an earlier press statement.
The creative team includes Lauren Nigri (scenic designer), Brittany Bodley (costume designer), Jared Gooding (lighting designer), Aaron Quick (sound designer) and Mealah Heidenreich (props designer).
The season will continue with the 29th Young Playwrights Festival, a showcase of one-act plays written by local teen playwrights. Pegasus' spring production will be announced at a later date.
All performances take place at Chicago Dramatists, located at 1105 W. Chicago Ave. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit PegasusTheatreChicago or call Ovation Tickets at (866) 811-4111.
