The world premiere of Sofia Alvarez’ Friend Art officially opens May 26. The cast features Zoe Chao (Sideways), Aaron Costa Ganis (Bareknuckle), Anabelle Lemieux and Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages).
Directed by Portia Krieger, the new comedy explores what it means to support the arts.
The Second Stage Theatre production is part of its uptown series in the McGinn/Cazale Theatre on Broadway at 76th Street. Performances began May 17.
Here’s how Second Stage bills Alvarez’s newest work: “Kevin and Molly are a 30-something couple about to get married. Their best friend Nate just broke up with Lil, his much younger performance artist girlfriend. The group is navigating Gotham living at varying levels of success, which inevitably means attending friends’ basement art shows. In this comedy we're confronted with what it means to support the art and decisions your friends make, regardless of what it does to your friendships.”
Scenic design is by Daniel Zimmerman, costume design is by Asta Bennie Hostetter, lighting design is by Mike Inwood and original music and sound design are by Palmer Hefferan.
The McGinn/Cazale Theatre is located on Broadway at 76th St., Manhattan. For more information and to purchase tickets, call the Second Stage Theatre Box Office at (212) 246-4422 or visit 2ST.com.
