News Gary Griffin Will Direct NYC Workshop of New Musical Hee-Haw A developmental lab of the new musical Hee-Haw, based on the classic TV series featuring music and comedy skits that ran from 1969-1977, will be held in Manhattan in September, according to an Equity notice.

Directed by Gary Griffin, the three-week workshop is scheduled for Sept. 2-23. Denis Jones will choreograph.

Hee-Haw features a book by Robert Horn and music and lyrics by Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark. Stephen Oremus is the musical director.

Producers are Steve Buchanan, Sally Williams and Fox Theatricals (Kristin Caskey and Mike Isaacson).

"All of the characters in this play from Cornfield County need a wholesome, down-home sensibility," according to an earlier casting notice. "They can’t be 'in' on the joke. At the same time, all of the actors need impeccable comedic instincts and timing."

The current casting notice is seeking male and female ensemble members, who should be "excellent dancers who sing…Comedic skills a must. Should have a strong Southern flair. Playing instruments is a plus."
