News "Grease," With John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, Headed for Summer Sing-A-Long Re-Release Building on the success of event-type cinema screenings of operas like Aida and occasional Broadway shows like The Audience, Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies are planning to screen the sing-along version of the 1978 movie "Grease" in 500 theatres across the U.S. on Aug. 16 and 19, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Titled "Grease Sing-A-Long," the print will include the lyrics to the songs on the screen so audiences that join in, in the style of the "Sing-a-long Sound of Music" that has been presented successfully on ABC TV and elsewhere.

The film will be digitally broadcast twice a day, on the two days listed.

It will be presented as part of a summer series of classic film revivals. EW quoted Jennifer Dorian, GM of Turner Classic Movies, saying, “The series allows us to bring fans another opportunity to engage with classic movies on the big screen from a variety of studios and eras in a way that aligns with our network’s mission to show films the way they were meant to be seen."

The 1978 film which stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, was based on the 1972 Broadway musical, which starred Barry Bostwick, Carole Demas and Adrienne Barbeau.
