Jenna Gavigan, who made her Broadway debut in Gypsy in 2003, has used her own journey to Broadway as the inspiration for a novel for middle graders about a mouse who lives in the Shubert Theatre and dreams of performing on its grand stage.
Titled Lulu the Broadway Mouse, the story follows Lulu as she guides a human girl through the world of the theatre and its quirky cast and crew.
“Lulu the Broadway Mouse is inspired by my lifelong love of the theatre,“ says author and actor Gavigan. “Specifically, my childhood determination to make it to Broadway, my debut in Gypsy at the Shubert, and the cast of characters I’ve met over the years who have made my life so wonderfully colorful.“
Gavigan also starred in Straight Off-Broadway, and appeared on The Good Wife, Boardwalk Empire, The Knick, House of Cards, and more.
Lulu The Broadway Mouse will be published October 9 via Running Press Kids, and is suitable for ages 8 and up. You can pre-order now wherever books are sold, in store, and online.
