The first and second round recipients of the Edgerton Foundation's 2023-2024 New Play Awards have been revealed, representing a cumulative total of $722,000 given to 12 productions to allow for extra development and rehearsal time with the entire creative team.
The awarded productions are listed below:
- Alicia Keys and Kristoffer Diaz's Hell's Kitchen at The Public Theater
- Joe DiPietro's Babbitt at La Jolla Playhouse
- Joe Iconis and Gregory S. Moss's Untitled Unauthorized Hunter Thompson Muiscal at La Jolla Playhouse
- a.k. payne's Furlough's Paradise at Alliance Theatre
- Sam Holcroft's A Mirror at Almeida Theatre
- Annie Baker's Infinite Life at Atlantic Theater and National Theatre
- Kristen Adele Calhoun's Black Cypress Bayou at Geffen Playhouse
- Curtis Moore, Amanda Green, Jennifer Crittenden, and Gabrielle Allan's Female Troubles at Goodman Theatre
- Jen Silverman, Dana Delany, Mike Donahue, and Dane Laffrey's Highway Patrol at Goodman Theatre
- Lisa Sanaye Dring's Sumo at La Jolla Playhouse and Ma-Yi Theater Company
- Tina Landau, Kate Diaz, and Idina Menzel's Redwood at La Jolla Playhouse
- Tim Price's Nye at National Theatre in co-production with Wales Millenium Centre.
Administered by Theatre Communications Group, the awards have distributed more than $17 million to 533 productions of its 18 years, enabling many works to schedule a world premiere and 38 Broadway bows. Six awarded works have gone on to win Pulitzer Prizes for Drama, including The Hot Wing King, Cost of Living, Hamilton, The Flick, Water by the Spoonful, and Next to Normal.
